Vol. 275 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - World Climatic Changes.

18.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he agrees with the opinion that a global change in climate has occurred such that in Ireland the range of summer temperatures is more likely to result in either extremes of cool and wet or very dry climatic conditions than was formerly the case; and, if so, if he will advise farmers on strategies in preparation for next season.

19.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries whether any consideration has been given to overall changes in world climatic conditions in the preparation of agricultural policy.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 18 and 19 together.

I am advised that there is no evidence which would indicate that there has been any global change in climate which would result in the more likely occurrence here of conditions of the kind mentioned by the Deputy or which would warrant such factors being taken into account in the preparation or implementation of agricultural policy.
