Vol. 275 No. 8

Ceisteanna——Questions. Oral Answers. - Insecticide Controls.

1.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if there are any controls on the sale of Aldrin and Dieldrin.

Sheep dips containing the insecticides Aldrin and Dieldrin were in use up to 1968 under the sheep dipping orders but approval of them for that purpose was then withdrawn and the manufactures decided to stop production.

The only agricultural purpose other than sheep dipping for which Aldrin and Dieldrin are specifically effective is the control of soil-borne insect pests of a small number of horticultural crops. Their very limited use in horticulture is not prohibited as it is not regarded as a hazard.
