Vol. 276 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Teachers' Dispute.

asked the Minister for Education the steps he intends to take to settle the dispute with the Teachers Union of Ireland which has resulted in the curtailment of teaching hours.

Mr. R. Burke

I had a meeting with representatives of the managerial and teaching associations on 6th November and a further meeting with a deputation from the Irish Vocational Educational Association on 25th November.

Because I am awaiting certain information arising out of the latter meeting I do not deem it appropriate to say anything further on the matter just now.

From the tone of the Minister's reply, am I to take it we are near a solution to this very grave problem?

Mr. R. Burke

The Minister always hopes that solutions are at hand.

It is a case of fiddling while Rome is burning, is it not?
