Vol. 276 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Taxi Registration.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if registration for service as taxis is denied in the case of cars over two years old even though registered cars may continue in service indefinitely.

Public Service Vehicle Regulations made in 1970 provided that vehicles licensed as taxis after 17th September, 1970, should be not more than two years old. Exception is made in the case of certain persons who held licences prior to that date. The Garda Commissioner, who is the licensing authority by virtue of his powers under the regulations, may suspend or revoke a licence or he may refuse to grant a licence if he sees fit to do so.
