Vol. 276 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority House Qualification.

46.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider raising the maximum PL valuation of £5 on land for the purpose of qualification for local authority houses under the small farmers housing scheme.

I do not propose at present to promote legislation on the lines suggested. Small farmers with a land valuation in excess of £5 who are in need of rehousing can be rehoused by local authorities at income related rents in the same way as any other category of persons in need. As a result of the new housing subsidy arrangements, introduced in March, 1973, the full loss on any such houses currently being provided is met by the Exchequer.
