Vol. 276 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income Tax Rebates.

77.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of delays experienced by wage-earners in obtaining rebates of income tax; and the steps he proposes to take to remedy the situation.

78.

asked the Minister for Finance the average delay and the approximate maximum delay in issuing income tax rebates.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 77 and 78 together.

It is the general practice in tax offices to give priority to claims for repayments of tax particularly in cases of unemployment. If the Deputy is aware of any particular case of undue delay and supplies the details I will have the matter investigated.

The normal time for processing a claim for repayment is between seven and 14 days. The time needed may however exceed this in certain cases when further information is required to be supplied by the taxpayer or the employer.
