Vol. 276 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Accountancy Qualifications.

14.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any progress has been made in having Irish qualifications for the accountancy profession recognised by EEC member states.

The mutual recognition of accountancy qualifications in the nine member countries of the EEC is being pursued by that body through the formulation of directives. Some progress has been made with the draft directive relating to auditing, but that relating to other activities of the profession is dormant at present. My Department has kept the Irish accountancy bodies informed of developments and has welcomed their co-operation in examining proposals and in attending meetings in Brussels.
