Vol. 277 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disabled Persons Home Adaptation Grant.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will increase the disabled persons home adaptations grant in line with the increase in costs since the grant was introduced.

The level of grant assistance for the adaptation of houses occupied by physically disabled persons is being examined as part of the review of housing policy in relation to both public and private housing.

When are we going to get the results of this review? This has been the stock answer emanating from the Minister to any question asking for an increase in the level of grants. Is the Minister not aware that costs have gone up at an alarming rate since most of the grants operated by his Department were fixed? Informing the House that it is under review is not very satisfactory in view of the increased cost to those trying to build.

Could the Minister give us some indication when the results of this review will be available?

As soon as the review is completed.

Is it an on-going one?

In answer to a question of mine two months ago the Minister also said this was under review and I am very anxious to know when the review will be completed.

I can assure the Deputy I am as anxious as he is to have the review completed. There is no point in my trying to give information before the review is fully completed and all the details have been worked out and, as soon as the review is completed, the details will be given to Deputy Callanan and the House.
