NOTE:—Attention is directed to the fact that these figures include a number of workers on systematic short-time.
4.
asked the Taoiseach the total number of people registered as unemployed in the Dublin city area on 1st January, 1975.
The number on the live register at the four Dublin employment exchanges on 3rd January, 1975, the nearest available date, was 25,648. This figure includes 3,593 systematic short-time workers.
The Parliamentary Secretary is aware that there are in excess of 100,000 people unemployed at the moment. Are the numbers he has just given part of the 100,000 unemployed or in excess of that number?
The question relates only to Dublin city and, therefore, the figures I have given must be part of the overall unemployment figure, whatever that is.
It is in excess of 100,000 people.
Have the Government any proposals regarding some action to improve this appalling situation?
That is a separate question.
There will be 200,000 unemployed after the Government have finished.
That is some record for the Coalition.
I am calling Question No. 5.
