Vol. 277 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Leitrim Bridge.

160.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he is aware that a foot stick placed over the Kilcoo River to enable people to get to Mass and children to get to school in the Border village of Kiltyclogher, County Leitrim was removed by the British Army on Saturday, 4th January, 1975; and the action he intends to take to remedy the inconvenience caused to the people affected.

Information available to the Garda concerning interference with the foot stick placed over the river at Kiltyclogher has not been sufficient to allocate responsibility to any person or persons. If any further information is available this should be made known when the matter can be re-examined.

161.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the steps he has taken to have the Cashel Bridge on the road leading from Kiltyclogher, County Leitrim to Fermanagh restored.

Representations have been made to the British in the strongest possible terms regarding the situation in the Kiltyclogher area, and the matter has been raised and pursued vigorously at meetings in Dublin, London and Belfast. The British authorities have not accepted our view that there are compelling social reasons for ensuring adequate access between Kiltyclogher and County Fermanagh and have up to now agreed only to provide a foot bridge. This has been in place since 20th December. I will continue to press for a satisfactory solution to the problem.
