asked the Taoiseach the number of computers imported into this country in each of the years 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974 by (a) private companies and (b) State and semi-State bodies; the country of origin; and the total cost and currency used to purchase them.

It is not possible to indicate the number of computers imported as the relevant statistical heading covers both complete data processing systems and separately-imported constituent units.

The value of ADP machines and units imported during each of the years in question was:

Information relating to importing sectors such as private companies, semi-State bodies and so on is not compiled in the external trade statistics nor are data relating to the currencies used available.
