Vol. 279 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Protein Food Intake.

16.

asked the Minister for Health if he has any evidence that the Irish people are eating more expensive high protein food than they did three years ago.

I am aware that prices of high protein foods, in common with most other prices, have increased over the past three years but, as incomes and social welfare allowances have also increased, I have no reason to believe that the changes in price have affected the consumption of high protein foods to the detriment of health.

I would draw the Deputy's attention to my reply of 13th March, 1975 to a question by Deputy Haughey on the carrying out of a national nutrition programme.
