Vol. 279 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Potato Imports.

7.

asked the Taoiseach the quantity and value of wholly or partially processed potatoes imported in 1974.

The external trade statistics do not contain a separate category for all forms of processed potatoes. The available data relating to imports in the year 1974 are as follows:

Metric tons

£

Dried, dehydrated or evaporated potatoes

3.9

1,135

Flour, meal and flakes of potato

236.5

105,257

Potato starch

542.3

70,418

I had a question down to the Taoiseach asking which Minister would represent this country at the proposed Council of Environmental Ministers of the European Communities.

Is the Deputy departing from the order on the paper now?

I am protesting at the fact that this question has been transferred to the Minister for Local Government.

The Deputy is not in order in raising the matter in this fashion.

It is not a matter for the Minister for Local Government, who is not the Minister for the Environment, to appoint a Minister to the Council of the Environment.

The Deputy will have to find another opportunity of raising this matter. It is not appropriate at this point.

I must insist that if we have no Minister for the Environment it is important for the Taoiseach to decide which Minister should attend the Council and not the Minister for Local Government.

The Deputy will please desist and allow questions to proceed.

Is it in order for you, Sir, to notify a Deputy that a question has not been accepted?

These questions are not in order.

Is it for the Minister for Local Government to decide which Minister will attend the Council?

I have asked the Deputy to desist from further interruption.

The Chair should have paid me the courtesy of letting me know in advance that this question was being transferred and the reasons for its transfer. Not informing me was a discourtesy.

I must insist that the Deputy allow questions to continue. I am calling Question No. 8.

The Chair might have given me notice of the transfer of the question.
