Vol. 279 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Library Site.

62.

asked the Minister for Education the purpose to which the site at Morehampton Road, Donnybrook, Dublin is to be put now that it has been decided not to build the new National Library there.

Mr. R. Burke

This site has been reserved for a new National College of Art and Design.

Will the Minister state if a definite decision has been made and, if so, when building is likely to commence?

Mr. R. Burke

I am not at present in a position to indicate when this may take place. I have answered the question regarding the purpose for which the site at Morehampton Road was reserved.

I know that. What I want to find out is the Minister's intention——

Mr. R. Burke

I am not in a position to say that there will be any change in the matter, but if the Deputy puts down a further question I may have further information for him.

Are we to take it that the NCAD building will be started fairly soon on that site?

Mr. R. Burke

I do not want to get involved in a philosophical discussion on this. The matter is under constant consideration in the Department of Education and when results are available and when decisions have been made in respect of it, it will then be started.

It is unworthy of the Minister to use the jargon "under consideration" and "in the near future".
