Vol. 281 No. 7

Ceiseanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dairy Farmers' Contingency Protection.

9.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he considers that EEC regulations should include protective compensatory provisions for dairy farmers in the event of a contingency such as the recent petrol strike; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Industrial action in a basic service invariably entails hardship and loss in many other sectors also, and I do not think it would be possible to legislate for special compensatory provisions in one particular sector against such an eventuality. I cannot visualise EEC funds being made available in that connection.
