Vol. 281 No. 7

Written Answer. - County Solictors' Remuneration.

179.

asked the Minister for Local Government the remuneration that each county solicitor received in the last 12 months, the conditions of employment of this grade and the amount each has received in respect of the processing of SDA loans.

Whole-time salaried law agents are employed in Counties Cavan, Cork, Dublin and Kerry. Their fully inclusive remuneration is at present on a scale running from £5,860 to £6,844. Their conditions of employment are similar to those for local authority officers generally.

In the other counties solicitors are usually engaged on a taxed costs basis by the councils concerned. In some cases part-time salaried solicitors may be employed; the records of the Department are not fully up-to-date in this regard. It is understood that a number of solicitors are also employed by Dublin County Council on a taxed costs basis in addition to those employed on a full-time salaried basis. Details of payments made to solicitors employed otherwise than on a whole-time salaried basis are not available in the Department.
