Vol. 281 No. 9

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

247.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to have unemployment benefit paid to a person in County Cork (name supplied) from the commencement date of her unemployment.

A claim for unemployment benefit made by the person concerned on 18th February, 1975 was disallowed by a deciding officer for a period of six weeks under the provisions of section 17 (4) (a) of the Social Welfare Act 1952 on the ground that she had voluntarily left her employment without just cause. She was notified of her right to appeal against this decision, if dissatisfied, but she did not do so. The claim was allowed from 1st April, 1975 on the expiration of the period of disqualification.

248.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to have unemployment assistance or benefit paid to a person in County Cork (name supplied).

When the person concerned first sought unemployment assistance at his local employment office on 25th April, 1975 he was not the holder of a qualification certificate which is an essential requirement for entitlement to such assistance. It was, therefore, necessary to have an application for a certificate completed by him and referred to a social welfare officer for investigation. The officer's inquiries have not yet been completed, but every effort is being made to have the investigation concluded at an early date.
