On the basis of the national accounts classification, total expenditure by central Government, both current and capital, including subsidies and transfers to other sectors of the economy, expressed as a percentage of gross national product at current market prices, amounted to 37 per cent in 1972-73 and 40 per cent in 1973-74, and is provisionally estimated at 49 per cent in 1974. It is considered that the corresponding percentage figure for 1975 will be of the same order of magnitude as that for 1974.
