Vol. 283 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyshannon Board of Conservators.

14.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries when elections to the Ballyshannon Board of Conservators will take place; and if he will ensure that such election will enable the Erne Estuary fishermen to be represented on the new board.

The present intention is that the elections to boards of conservators will take place in 1976.

Licensed salmon fishermen in the Ballyshannon district will be entitled to nominate eligible persons as candidates and to vote for them. I cannot however, ensure that the Erne estuary fishermen will be represented on the new board.

Before the Parliamentary Secretary comes to a final determination, will he consider giving special representation to certain interests? I advocate most strongly, not only in the case of the Erne fishermen but in other cases where the ESB has a particular interest, that these other special interests should be given special representation.

At this stage I cannot comment on that.

I am not asking the Parliamentary Secretary to comment. I am asking him to take this into account.

It will be taken into account.
