Vol. 283 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Paper Industry Prospects.

20.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement on the present position of and the prospects for the paper industry in this country, with particular reference to a firm (name supplied) which is at present on shorttime working Clondalkin, County Dublin.

The present position of the paper industry in general both at home and abroad is that the market is depressed because of the world-wide decline in economic activity. There is some improvement in the demand for paper from the Irish mills but a steady upward trend is not expected for some months. There are no fears for the long-term future of the industry.
