Vol. 283 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Double Glazing Units.

9.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that Irish manufacturers of double glazing units are finding it difficult to compete with British competitors who can procure their materials cheaper from British suppliers and export their finished products into this country free of duty; and if he will impose an import duty on imported double glazing units.

My Department have not received any representations from manufacturers of double glazing units regarding difficulties in competing with imported products.

We are precluded by the terms of the Anglo-Irish Free Trade Area Agreement and the Treaty of Accession to the EEC from imposing new or increased duties on UK goods except in limited circumstances.
