Vol. 284 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork VEC Budget Allocations.

24.

asked the Minister for Education when he proposes to inform the vocational education committees in Cork city and county of their budget allocations for the coming school year.

Mr. R. Burke

The budget allocations for vocational education committees are determined in the context of the overall provision made for vocational education. Each vocational education committee will be informed of its budget allocation as soon as possible after its proposed financial scheme has been examined and approved in this context.

How soon will that be done?

Are the committees concerned at the moment in a position to take action on the number of staff to be employed next year?

Mr. R. Burke

The vocational educational committees are informed of budget allocations for the financial year, not for the school year.

Are they in a position to know at the moment what staff will be catered for in the grant?

Mr. R. Burke

There are rules and regulations governing the numbers of staff available in the vocational schools.

Has there been a hold-up on this information for Cork city and area this year?

Mr. R. Burke

Not that I am aware of.
