Vol. 284 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Housing Applicants.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of applicants for local authority houses in Sligo town; and when it is hoped to provide them with suitable housing.

The latest information available to me was supplied by Sligo Corporation on 13th May, 1975. There was a total of 289 applicants for rehousing by Sligo Corporation at that time.

I understand that the corporation will decide on the allocation of tenancies for 105 houses in the Abbey-quarter scheme shortly—I believe they have already done this in the last few days—and that a further 88 houses in this scheme are at tender stage; that plans are being prepared for schemes comprising some 250 houses; and that the corporation have a reserve of sites for 60 more houses.

Can the Minister state if any of these 250 houses will start in the near future?

That is a matter for Sligo Corporation. I would hope they will.

Is there absolutely no limitation on funds for starting additional houses on sites available?

In this particular case Sligo Corporation will be given adequate funds to start their housing scheme.

Can the Minister state if the NBA will undertake any scheme in the future?

There is an NBA scheme involved in this.

Can the Minister give me any idea when it may start?

Sligo Corporation capital allocation for local authority houses in 1975 is £570,000, including £492,000 for NBA schemes. The total of the authorised expenditure for 1975 is £627,000. I am keeping it under review in case there is a shortage and I assure Deputy MacSharry there will not be a hold-up because of shortage of funds.
