Vol. 285 No. 1

Written Answers. - Finner Camp Runway.

496.

asked the Minister for Defence if the Army is providing a runway at Finner Camp for use by Army Air Corps planes on coastal patrol; if so, if this runway will be made available to commercial planes, subject to whatever safeguards are considered necessary, as this facility would be an inducement to firms interested in developing the IDA site opposite Finner Camp, would assist in developing tourism in the area and would also be of use to business people in Sligo town which is only about thirty minutes away by car.

A hard-surfaced landing strip for use by light military aircraft is in course of construction at Finner Camp, County Donegal. It is not expected that the work will be completed before May, 1976.

For security reasons the general use of the landing strip by civilian aircraft could not be permitted. However when the strip has been completed individual applications from the owners or operators of light civilian aircraft for permission to use it will be considered on their merits.
