Vol. 286 No. 8

Written Answers. - Extradition Applications.

203.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of applications for extradition received by the Garda Síochána from Northern Ireland and Britain in respect of terrorist-type offences in each of the years 1969 to 1975 inclusive.

Whether an offence is of a terrorist-type cannot be established by any objective criterion. Accordingly official records cannot be used to provide an answer to the question. If the Deputy cares to put down a question asking for the number of warrants received in respect of any specific category of offence I shall have the figures compiled. It may, however, be of interest that in the period mentioned a total of 404 persons were returned to Britain and 52 to Northern Ireland on foot of warrants issued in those jurisdictions.
