Vol. 286 No. 8

Written Answers. - Unemployment Benefit.

288.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why unemployment benefit has not been paid to a person (name supplied) in Edenderry, County Offaly.

Payment of unemployment benefit to the person concerned was suspended pending completion of inquiries as to whether he satisfied the statutory conditions for receipt of benefit.

On completion of those inquiries payment was restored together with arrears due. I understand that he has now found other employment.

289.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why unemployment benefit has not been paid to a person (details supplied) Marian Place, Tullamore, County Offaly.

A claim for unemployment benefit made by the person concerned on 20th October, 1975, was disallowed by a deciding officer on the ground that she did not satisfy the statutory condition for entitlement to benefit which requires a claimant to be available for employment. She has appealed against the deciding officer's decision and an appeal hearing, at which it will be open to her to attend and give evidence on her own behalf, will be arranged as soon as possible.

290.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why unemployment benefit has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly.

A claim for unemployment benefit made by the person concerned on 12th August, 1975, was disallowed by a deciding officer with effect from that date on the ground that she did not satisfy the statutory condition for entitlement to benefit which requires a claimant to be available for employment. The claimant appealed against this decision and after an oral hearing of the appeal, at which she attended and gave evidence, the appeals officer upheld the decision of the deciding officer. An appeals officer's decision is final in the absence of new facts or fresh evidence.
