Vol. 287 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Health Centre.

14.

asked the Minister for Health when he proposes to sanction the erection of a health centre at Woodford, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The planning of this centre is proceeding. Work on this health centre can commence when financial resources are available but it will not be possible to start work on this project in 1976.

Am I to take it that there is no possibility of this health centre being started in 1976?

That is right.

I am very, very disappointed. This has been sanctioned by the health board and all that is awaited is the Minister's sanction and, as soon as that comes, the work can go ahead.

Roughly, how much is it estimated to cost?

That seems to be a separate question.

About £40,000.

Is the Minister aware that there is no resident doctor there now?

That is a separate question.

Is the Minister aware that old people have to wait out on the side of the road?

That is a separate matter.

It is an important supplementary question on an important matter.

The Minister said it is estimated to cost £40,000. I suggest "and upwards".

Add up all the demands.

Would the Minister reconsider his decision?

I would be dishonest if I said I would. I have already said it will not be possible to start work on this project this year.
