Vol. 287 No. 1

Written Answers. - Disability Benefit.

46.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why disability benefit was not paid to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly whose application was received in his Department in August last.

The person referred to by the Deputy made an application for disability benefit in September last under an insurance number which did not refer. An insurance number which referred to the claimant was traced but under this number there was no record of employment contributions. Following inquiries by a local officer of the Department it was found that the claimant's employer had not been stamping the insurance cards of his employees. The full amount of contributions due from the employer has not yet been collected, but the contributions due in respect of the claimant have been treated as paid at the correct time, and a cheque for the amount of benefit due has been issued.
