Vol. 287 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport Services.

327.

Mr. Kitt

asked the Minister for Education the present position as regards the use of CIE buses for transporting school children to swimming pools (a) during school hours and (b) outside of school hours; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As announced in January, 1975, the use of school buses is no longer legally restricted to transporting children to and from school; they may also be used to take pupils to and from school-related physical education activities. This would include visits to swimming pools.

I understand that there are still some labour difficulties to be resolved by CIE before the scheme can be implemented.
