59.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the estimated loss to the Exchequer in 1975 of the total exemption to all employers of their contributions to social insurance.

Final figures of the income for 1975 of the various social insurance schemes are not yet available. Provisional returns indicate that the loss to the Exchequer in 1975 resulting from the total exemption to all employers of their contributions to social insurance would have been as follows:

Scheme

Administered by

Estimated loss to Exchequer

£

Social Insurance

Department of Social Welfare

90,396,000

Occupational Injuries

,, ,, ,, ,,

3,500,000

Redundancy

Department of Labour

3,431,000

Health Act Schemes

Department of Health

1,000,000

The figure shown above falls to be reduced by £7.5 million which is the approximate amount paid in social welfare contributions by the Exchequer as an employer.
