Vol. 287 No. 9

Written Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

60.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a person (name supplied) in County Galway who has been signing for unemployment assistance since the 19th May, 1975, has not yet received payment.

Unemployment assistance is not payable to the person concerned as his weekly rate of means as assessed for unemployment assistance purposes by a deciding officer, and subsequently by an appeals officer, exceeds the maximum rate of assistance which would be payable in his case.

The appeals officer's decision is final in the absence of new facts or fresh evidence.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a person (name supplied) in County Galway who has been applying for unemployment assistance for the past eight months has not yet received payment.

Payment of unemployment assistance was made to the person concerned with effect from 2nd April, 1975, and has continued since that date. Following an appeals officer's decision of 14th January, 1976, reducing the weekly rate of means assessed in his case, he is entitled to an increased rate of unemployment assistance, and arrangements have been made with the local office to have all arrears due paid to him during the present week.
