Vol. 289 No. 9

Written Answers. - Playing Pitches.

21.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will make playing pitches available on Land Commission land in areas where such pitches are a necessity.

Cavan): It is the practice of the Land Commission to give sympathetic consideration to all applications from sporting organisations and trustees for the provision of sports fields on estates taken over by them for allotment. The Deputy will appreciate, however, that the Land Commission must, when considering such applications, have due regard to the claims of local small-holders for additional land. During the last ten years a total of 453 acres was provided by the Land Commission for use as sports fields, parks, playgrounds and pleasure grounds throughout the country.
