Vol. 289 No. 9

Written Answers. - Irish Residents in Chile.

25.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if, in view of present developments in Chile, he will state the guarantee Irish people residing there have of their safety; and if his Department has been in communication with the Chilean authorities.

In the absence of Irish diplomatic or consular representation in Chile we have an arrangement under which the British authorities would assist should there be problems involving the welfare of Irish citizens in Chile. No problems regarding Irish citizens have been brought to my attention and my Department have not been in communication with the authorities of Chile.
