Vol. 289 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Donegal Freight Service.

28.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the proposals, if any, he has to provide an essential freight transport service for County Donegal.

I am not aware of any inadequacy of essential freight transport services for County Donegal and consequently I do not see the need to formulate any proposals specifically in that connection. The Road Transport Bill, 1976 which has just been circulated contains proposals which, if enacted, should remedy any difficulties which may arise in the future regarding the supply of freight transport in County Donegal and elsewhere in the country. The proposed exemption from control of haulage in vehicles having a maximum total laden weight of six metric tons is likely to be of particular benefit to the area in question and to rural areas generally.
