Vol. 290 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Manpower Service.

16.

andMr. Moore asked the Minister for Labour if a directive has been issued to the National Manpower Service to have vacancies channelled through the various Government Ministers; and, if so, why.

No such directive has been issued. The second part of the question does not, therefore, arise.

Can we be sure that no directive was issued by any Minister? If the Minister says this is the case we accept that.

No such directive was issued.

Can the Minister be sure that it was not issued by any other Minister?

The question is addressed to me and certainly no directive has been issued to my knowledge.

I would fear that somebody might be trying to blacken the Government and I would like to have the matter probed very much.

Have the National Manpower Service been told to change the methods by which they were recruiting up to now?

There has been no change. This Government believe in carrying on the best traditions of the previous Government.

Is the Minister absolutely sure that these matters are being handled by the National Manpower Service without any interference by any other Minister? The Minister should be careful here in case some person is getting behind his back. Is there any interference by any Government Minister in the allocation of such jobs?

No, the previous position obtains; that is the position that obtained under the previous Administration and no directive of the kind mentioned in the question has been issued.
