Vol. 290 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Identification Parade Rules.

10.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the recommendations made by the Devlin Committee in England, he proposes to introduce any changes in the rules and procedures governing the carrying out of identification parades in this country.

The Report of the Devlin Committee is, naturally, of interest to us because of the broad similarities between the criminal law and procedures of the two jurisdictions and the recommendations in the report will be studied by my Department. The report, which was published at the end of April, is a document of almost 200 pages and deals with evidence of identification in criminal cases and not just with identification parades. It is far too early to say whether any changes in law or in procedure will be introduced following consideration of the report.
