Vol. 290 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dumping Complaints.

2.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of complaints regarding dumping of products from abroad submitted to An Coimisiún Dumpála for the 12-month period up to 1st March, 1976.

The number of complaints of dumping submitted to An Coimisiún Dumpála during the 12-month period up to 1st March, 1976, was 23.

Will the Minister state if one of the 23 complaints was in respect of the dumping of nitrogen fertiliser?

There was one complaint for the dumping of calcium ammonium nitrate from Portugal.

Will the Minister state what action he took in regard to the matter?

A provisional anti-dumping duty of £8 per ton was imposed.

Does the Minister consider that a duty of £8 was sufficient? It is still £15 or £16 under the price of NET nitrate.

I do not think that the Deputy is correct. There is a relationship between the amount of the duty and the differential. I have not the details because I was not anticipating detailed questioning on it. There are 23 items involved here. I believe the duty had the desired effect.

I should like the Minister to take up the matter.

Perhaps the Deputy would put down a question and I will try to have a full reply for him.

Will the Minister state if he is fully satisfied that the cost price at which the home product is available is a fair one?

That is a long way from a question about the number of inquiries made to An Coimisiún Dumpála. If the Deputy had given me notice of the question I would have tried to have a full answer. I should not like to give an answer off the top of my head.

I am calling Question No. 3.
