48.

asked the Minister for Education the primary schools in County Kerry where improvements, reconstruction work or extensions will be commenced between 1st July, 1976, and 1st January, 1977.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 47 and 48 together.

The necessary arrangements for the erection, extension and improvement of national schools are, once the contracts have been placed, entirely in the hands of the Commissioners of Public Works. In recent months contracts have been placed for the erection of new schools at Ballycasheen and St. Gertrude's, Killarney, Ballyhearney (Valentia) and Kilgarvan; and for major works of improvement or extension at Ballybunion Convent and Fossa national schools. I am not in a position to say when the schemes may have commenced or will commence.

The following projects are in the final planning stages, namely, proposed new schools at Ballinskelligs, Ranalough (Killeentierna) and Scartaglen and a major extension at Tarbert. It is not possible to say at this juncture when the works will commence.
