Vol. 293 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Kerry School.

111.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the serious and dangerous condition of Raheen national school in the parish of Glenflesk, County Kerry; if he is aware of the gross overcrowding in this school and the health hazards involved for the school children; if he will state the present position regarding proposals for its replacement; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Raheen national school is scheduled to go out of operation when a proposed central school has been provided in the parish of Glenflesk in replacement of the national schools at Glenflesk, Barraduff, Knockanes and Raheen. My Department are awaiting a proposal as to a suitable site for the new central school.

As to the Raheen school building, I am informed that it is in sound condition as to roof, walls and windows, and that it has flushed sanitation and suitable heating. I have received no suggestion, other than that made in the Deputy's question, that conditions at this school are dangerous or such as to constitute a health hazard.
