Vol. 293 No. 2

Written Answers. - Meath Telephone Service.

63.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the action his Department intend to take in order to rectify the unsatisfactory nature of the telephone system in the Hill-of-Down area of County Meath; and if he proposes to provide more trunk lines between Hill-of-Down and Enfield in view of the fact that there are only three trunk lines, which are grossly inadequate to meet the needs of the 40 subscribers and the four industrial and commercial concerns of the area.

The difficulties referred to at Hill-of-Down exchange are due mainly to shortage of trunk lines. Plans have been made to provide extra lines but major cabling works will be necessary which are unlikely to be completed before the latter half of next year. In the meantime the working of the exchange and existing trunk lines will be given special attention.
