Vol. 293 No. 10

Written Answers. - County Dublin Health Services.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the urgent need for a health centre in the Darndale, County Dublin area; and the plans he has with the Eastern Health Board in this matter.

The provision of a health centre in Darndale, Dublin, is a matter primarily for the Eastern Health Board. I understand that the area is now served from the temporary health centre at Coolock. The health board have obtained a site for a permanent health centre at Coolock, which will cater for the Coolock and Darndale areas. The provision of the new centre will, however, depend on the availability of capital funds.

asked the Minister for Health the present position regarding his plans for a general hospital to serve the people of north county Dublin.

I presume that the Deputy's question relates to the proposed provision of a general hospital at Beaumont as indicated in the general hospital development plan. The Sisters of Mercy have agreed, in principle, to make available a site of about 38 acres at Beaumont Convalescent Home for this purpose.

Discussions have been taking place with Dublin Corporation on problems arising from town planning and services matters in respect of the proposed site and these have now been completed. Formal negotiations with the Sisters of Mercy regarding the acquisition of the site are under way.
