Vol. 296 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Pier.

38.

asked the Minister for the Gaeltacht if he will arrange for a grant for the repair of the Rineen pier at Lohan, Waterville, County Kerry in view of the representations on the matter by the community organisation.

Tá an cheist seo á breithniú faoi láthair.

Cathain a thiocfas toradh an breithnithe atá i gceist?

Ní féidir a rá ach beidh scéal ann faoi cheann cúpla seachtain.

Would the Minister indicate when Deputy O'Connor can expect the good news which he anticipates here?

The matter is under consideration in my Department. I expect to have a decision within a few weeks.

Is the Minister saying that a grant is forthcoming?

As the Deputy is aware, I understand that improvement work was carried out in this sphere last year by the Kerry County Council with the aid of a grant from Bord Fáilte Éireann and from discussions which my Department had with Bord Fáilte I gathered that either one or the other are considering making extra money available to finish the improvement work this year.

Is the Minister aware that there are approximately 15 young men there who are anxious to get to work with boats in the fishing industry which is good at the moment and that this is useful employment?

The Deputy can be assured that we are fully aware of the situation and, as I said to Deputy Tunney, the matter is being looked at favourably.
