Vol. 296 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Cavan School.

79.

asked the Minister for Education why he has refused to sanction a replacement on the staff of St. Aidan's Comprehensive School, Cootehill, County Cavan.

The enrolment at St. Aidan's Comprehensive School, Cootehill, for 1976-77 did not warrant the appointment of more than were already serving in the school. An additional appointment could not accordingly be sanctioned in that year. The position will be reconsidered for 1977-78 in the context of the enrolment and staffing appropriate to that year.

80.

asked the Minister for Education when the roof will be replaced on the gymnasium at St. Aidan's Comprehensive School, Cootehill, County Cavan.

The work in question is not to the roof but concerns the replacement of internal ceiling tiles. Tenders for the work have been received and are being considered. It is expected that the work will be put in hand at an early date.

81.

asked the Minister for Education the steps he is taking to provide an adequate playing pitch for the pupils of St. Aidan's Comprehensive School, Cootehill, County Cavan.

The existing school site is too small to accommodate a grassed playing pitch. It has not been found possible to acquire additional land at a reasonable price.

82.

asked the Minister for Education when two basketball courts will be provided as agreed to, for St. Aidan's Comprehensive School, Cootehill, County Cavan.

Tenders for this work have been received and are being examined. It is expected that a contractor will be appointed shortly.

83.

asked the Minister for Education the steps he will take to provide suitable plots of land for the practical demonstration necessary in the teaching of agricultural science at St. Aidan's Comprehensive School, Cootehill, County Cavan.

The initiative in these matters normally rests with the board of management. No application has apparently been made to the Department in this case.

84.

asked the Minister for Education when equipment for the biology laboratory will be made available to St. Aidan's Comprehensive School, Cootehill, County Cavan.

Tenders will be invited in March, 1977, for the supply and delivery of science equipment to a number of schools, including St. Aidan's Comprehensive School. Delivery is expected for the school year beginning September, 1977.

85.

asked the Minister for Education when a partition will be erected at St. Aidan's Comprehensive School, Cootehill, County Cavan, to enable the school to make maximum use of two class halls.

Quotations for a suitable type of partition are being sought by my Department and the board of management will be informed of the result as soon as possible.
