Vol. 297 No. 8

Social Welfare Bill, 1977: Order for Second Stage.

I move that the Second Stage be taken on Thursday, 10th March, 1977.

The first we heard of this was after coming in here this morning. I do not think we could possibly accept such a commitment.

I hope to take it tomorrow subject to agreement between the Whips.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary not have it ordered for Tuesday?

There is nothing to oppose anyway.

The Deputy knows what is in the Bill. We have not seen it.

Could we fix a date, please?

Tomorrow.

I appreciate that Deputy Lalor has had short notice of this. I shall talk to him immediately to see if we can agree to tomorrow. In the meantime, perhaps, he would allow it to be ordered for tomorrow.

Why can it not be ordered for next Tuesday? The Bill has not been circulated yet.

It has been circulated.

Again, it must be Deputy Collins. We have not seen it.

Tomorrow, then?

Yes, subject to agreement between the Whips.

Second Stage ordered for Thursday, 10th March, 1977.
