asked the Minister for Health the total amount of the health contribution paid by (a) employers (b) employees and (c) others in 1975 and 1976 and the estimate for 1977.

The following are the amounts of health contribution received in the Department of Health from (a) the Social Insurance Fund in respect of contributors under the Social Welfare Acts and (b) from the Collector General and health boards in respect of persons who are not contributors under the Social Welfare Acts— farmers, self-employed and others— in the years 1975 and 1976, and the amounts that it is estimated will be paid in 1977:—

Employers are liable for payment of health contributions as part of employment contributions in respect of their employees. They are entitled to recover the amount of the health contributions from the employees and may deduct the amount from their remuneration except in the case of employees who have full eligibility for services under Part IV of the Health Act, 1970.
