(Dublin Central) asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the need for greater opportunities for second-level education in the Liberties area of Dublin; and if he will indicate the progress that is being made in the matter.

Projects sanctioned by my Department in relation to second-level school accommodation in the Liberties area of Dublin will ensure the provision of adequate facilities in this area.
My Department have authorised the extension of the Holy Faith Convent, The Coombe, and tenders have been sought. The replacement of unsuitable buildings at Presentation Convent, Warrenmount, is also authorised and is at the outline planning stage.
In addition, my Department have sanctioned a proposal from the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee to purchase the Iveagh Trust building which is already partially occupied by the Bull Alley Street Vocational School. This building can be adapted to meet all forseeable needs.
The construction of the new school to replace the existing James St. Christian Brothers secondary school is at present in hands.
