Vol. 298 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rosslare Harbour Berthage.

13.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is now in a position to announce the result of the test carried out in Wallingford Research Station, England, on the proposed second berthage at Rosslare Harbour, County Wexford; and if work will commence in 1977.

Cavan): I have not yet received the report of the model investigation undertaken at the Hydraulics Research Station, Wallingford. CIE have informed me that they expect the final report this week. Before I can take a decision about the carrying out of the work it will be necessary for me to have the report assessed by my technical advisers.

Is the Minister satisfied that this report should have taken as long as it did? Will the Government provide the necessary money to carry out this very important second berthage in Rosslare?

(Cavan): I am satisfied that, while the report took somewhat longer than was expected, there has been no undue delay. CIE submitted the Rosslare Harbour development plan to my Department in March, 1975. The report was commissioned in March, 1976 and it was expected towards the end of last year. To that extent, it is somewhat overdue. My latest information is that it will be available this week and it will be processed as quickly as possible. The Deputy need not have any fears or doubts that the money will be provided to get on with the work, if the report so advises.

Would the Minister say how long it will take to process the report in his Department and would he advise me when to put down a further supplementary question?

(Cavan): It is not possible for me to say exactly how long it will take. That is a matter for my technical advisers.

Will it take months or years?

(Cavan): Months, I would say.
