Vol. 299 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefit.

15.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a person (name supplied) in County Tipperary has not been paid unemployment benefit or assistance since the 11th February after 13 years of contributions.

The entitlement of the person concerned to unemployment benefit on his claim of 14th February 1977 depended on the number of social insurance contributions paid or credited in respect of him during 1975. The records of my Department showed only three credited contributions in respect of him during that year and the normal inquiries in a case of this nature had to be undertaken to clarify the position. These have now been completed and the claim for unemployment benefit has been authorised. Arrangements have been made to have the amount due paid to the person concerned this week.

An application for a qualification certificate, which is a necessary requirement for entitlement to unemployment assistance, was also made on 14th February but title to the assistance does not arise as his entitlement to unemployment benefit has not been exhausted.
