asked the Minister for Health if the Western Health Board has any plans for the provision of a welfare home in Achill, County Mayo.

I understand that representations from various sources have been made to the Western Health Board for the provision of a welfare home for the elderly in Achill and that the board is considering these representations in connection with the formulation of a five year plan for the development of services in its area.

In the meantime, the board is considering the provision of day care for old folks in Achill.

Welfare homes for the elderly have been provided in County Mayo by the Western Health Board at Claremorris, Westport and Belmullet. Another welfare home is in planning for Ballina.
