Vol. 299 No. 1

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

82.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why a telephone has not been provided for a person (name supplied) in County Mayo.

An offer of service made to the person in question in November, 1973, was not accepted. It is expected that terms will be quoted towards the end of the year on foot of his most recent application. It is not practicable to attend to the matter earlier because provision of service requires very extensive linework—reconstruction and cabling of almost seven miles of pole route—and the Department are already committed to a heavy engineering work programme.

83.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if his Department will provide a public telephone outside Boughadoon post office, Ballina, County Mayo.

84.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if his Department will provide a telephone kiosk at Bunavilla, Keenagh, Ballina, County Mayo.

85.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if his Department will provide a public telephone at Tubbridge, Keenagh, Ballina, County Mayo.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 83 to 85, inclusive, together.

The use made of the call office telephone in Boughadoon post office is not sufficient to warrant provision of a kiosk there at present.

Kiosks are not provided in areas such as Bunavilla, Keenagh and Tubbridge, Keenagh, whert there are no post offices.
